NOT IN MYSUNSCREEN.

SunKids™ is formulated without the ingredients below, reflecting our approach to skin tolerance and potential environmental impacts, including marine life.

View ingredients we leave out
  • Oxybenzone

Environmental research and documented skin allergies inform our choice. Laboratory studies have identified effects on coral and other marine organisms, and sunlight-triggered allergic reactions have been reported in people.

    NOAA research Clinical report

  • Octinoxate

Research on aquatic effects and documented allergic reactions informs our decision. Laboratory studies have reported changes in thyroid signaling in zebrafish larvae; these findings don’t establish equivalent effects in people using sunscreen.

    Environmental study Clinical study

  • Avobenzone

We choose zinc oxide for our mineral-only formula. Documented sunlight-triggered allergies to avobenzone in some patients also inform our choice.

    Clinical study

  • Octocrylene

We consider both environmental research and skin tolerance. Studies document contact and sunlight-triggered allergies, and NOAA identifies octocrylene among sunscreen ingredients with potential effects on marine life.

    Allergy study NOAA

  • Homosalate

Safety assessments examining exposure and potential hormone-related effects inform our decision. European assessments led to restrictions on concentration and product use.

    European assessment Restrictions

  • Octisalate

We use zinc oxide as our only sunscreen active. Research has measured octisalate’s absorption into the bloodstream and supported further safety studies.

    FDA-authored clinical study

  • Parabens

We chose a different preservation system to help protect our formula from microbial contamination. This is a formulation preference.

    FDA information

  • Phenoxyethanol

We use an alternative preservation system. Phenoxyethanol’s potential endocrine-disrupting properties are under European assessment.

ECHA assessment status SCCS safety assessment

  • Artificial dyes

Plant-derived color. No artificial dyes. We choose plant-derived ingredients for our distinctive pink and blue tones. This reflects our color-source preference.

  • Butane + isobutane

Squeeze. Apply. Rub in. Our pouch dispenses sunscreen without aerosol propellants or airborne spray mist. Pediatric guidance recommends lotions to avoid inhaling sunscreen spray.

    American Academy of Pediatrics guidance

  • Formaldehyde + formaldehyde-releasing preservatives

We choose a preservation system without these ingredients because of their potential to cause contact allergy. FDA identifies formaldehyde and several formaldehyde-releasing preservatives among cosmetic allergens.

    FDA allergen guidance

  • Methylchloroisothiazolinone + methylisothiazolinone

We exclude these preservatives because of their documented potential to cause contact allergy and use a different preservation system.

    JAMA Dermatology research

Research findings depend on the ingredient, concentration and exposure. Our exclusions explain our formulation choices.
